"A characteristic of many modern technologies is that they are carried out at high speeds accompanied by rapid changes of technological parameters. To optimize technological processes by computation, e.g. finite element method, it is essential to know the exact values of these parameters, including their highly dynamic changes. Obtaining these values for highly dynamic changes is very demanding, and very often standard measuring techniques cannot be used. To find pre-forming resistance, yield value, ultimate strength, ductility and contraction of highly hardened steel under conditions of high speed heating, new technology was developed and optimized. The technology heats, in a matter of seconds, a test sample from room temperature to several hundred degrees and then deform it at speeds up to 100 s-1. A system of tensometers and high speed optical extensometer are used to precisely identify the deformation forces and the deformation path.
