"In veterinary, there exist only limited knowledge about the coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) characteristics and their profiles of antibiotic resistance. The aim of our work was to assess the antibiotic resistance profiles of 13 selected antibiotics (ATB) in the collection of S. haemolyticus (SH, n = 35), S. epidermidis (SEP, n = 23) and S. chromogenes (SCH, n = 27), which were acquired from the cow milk and farm personnel. The resistance patterns were assessed using the disc diffusion method, according to the CLSI standards. The SCH isolates featured with almost absolute sensitivity to tested antibiotics (ATB). The most frequent resistances among the SH were the Tetracycline (22.9 %), Amoxicillin/ Clavulanic Acid (20 %), Gentamicin (22.9 %) and Oxacillin (11.4 %) resistance. The SEP analysis revealed presence of high ATB resistance incidence - Oxacillin (73.9 %), Cefotaxime (65.2 %), Cefoxitin (65.2 %), Erythromycin (60.9 %), Tetracycline (43.5 %), Amoxicillin/ Clavulanic Acid (34.8 %), Teicoplanin (34.8 %) and Gentamicin (34.8 %) (including intermediate results). We detected presence of ten SEP strains (43.5 %) with > 5 ATB resistances and three SEP strains (13 %) with > 10 different ATB resistances. The all multi-resistant SEP strains were of human origin. The presence of mecA gene was confirmed in 100 % SEP strains with the oxacillin resistance, the oxacillin sensitive strains were mecA negative. Distribution of the mecA gene among SCH, SH strains did not correlate accurately with the oxacillin resistance: 11 SCH strains (40.7 %) with the oxacillin sensitivity were mecA positive. This finding suggests existence of more complex mechanism in the mecA expression regulation. It also indicates the advantages of applying different methods for testing bacterial oxacillin sensitivity. A high prevalence of MRSE (methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis) (73.9 %) was detected in acquired CNS strains. This is of concern in view of potential spread of mecA to S. aureus."@en . "2"^^ .
