"The aim of the study was to compare the use of rapid thermoresistance test (sperm activity), CASA (sperm motility) analysis and morphology evaluation for predicting fertility of frozen-thawed ram semen following AI. The evaluation of the frozen-thawed semen from East-Friesian (EF) and Lacaune (Lc) breed rams showed significant (P < 0.001) differences in the spermatozoa activity at the different time points of the thermoresistance test (30 and 60 minutes) after thawing between these rams. The spermatozoa activity of EF semen after 15, 30 and 60 min of incubation was maintained at the same level (30 %). However, the sperm activity of Lc rams decreased from 25 to 10 %. In accordance with the decrease of Lc sperm activity, morphological evaluation showed higher percentage of malformations in the head, midpeace and tail regions of Lc sperm. These results are in concert with CASA analysis of sperm motility. A higher total and progressive motility at 30 and 120 min after thawing was measured in sperm from EF ram (P < 0.001) compared to the sperm from Lc ram. The differences detected in the motility parameters of frozen-thawed semen from two ram breeds were reflected in the pregnancy (12.24 and 28.00 %) and lambing rate (0.0 and 56.00 %) for EF and Lc respectively." .
