"The article describes the most important aspects of distance education in Europe. It consists of four parts. The first part is devoted to issues of the European perspective of higher education, which is under the influence of increasing globalization and growing job markets. There, the importance of continuing education and especially internationalization in education grow that predicts its further development. Key issues in the Internet age education are discussed in the next section. Further, the missing conceptual use of eLearning products throughout the Czech higher education is discussed. Yet, universities have their internal programs for distance learning, there is still a wider (commercial) use of information technology in relation to the economy, labor market and employment. In particular, standardization and internationalization bring with them the need to address the core competences to create an open European educational space.
