"The aim of this paper is to evaluate the disparity of sub-regional units of different hierarchical levels in the Czech Republic. To evaluate the socioeconomic condition of the sub-region factor analysis was used. Source data include 25 social, demographic and economic indicators. Sub-regional units consist of a central municipality to which there are affiliated surrounding catchment municipalities based on the direction of commuting flows to work and school. A center of sub-region must have at least 1,000 inhabitants and basic amenities. Based on the methodical procedure described in the article, there were defined 411 sub-regions in the Czech Republic. Sub-regional units are more suitable for measuring disparities than independent municipalities that represent too detailed level of assessment. On the contrary, higher administrative units are too large to assess disparities; moreover, they are limited by administrative boundaries. Defined sub-regional units are divided according to their function in the territory into four levels and at the same time the differences according to the average value of a factor score are examined." .
