"The existing reductive remedial technologies, namely chemical dechlorination mediated by nanoiron and microbiological dechlorination mediated by fermantable organic compounds, show advantages but as well disadvantages. Microbiological method terminates very often at 1,2-cis-dichloroethen, which is degraded to vinyl chloride and ethene very slowly. On the other hand, zero-valent nanoiron is very often consumed at reactions with other dissolved compounds; its efficiency is reduced. Certified technology combines both methods in order to eliminate their disadvantages. At the site, microbial dechlorination mediated by lactates is applied at first.
