The photocatalytic efficiency of coatings was evaluated using two methods. An absorbance change of organic dye Orange II solution and a change of colour coordinate b* of coatings dyed with methylene blue were measured. The agar plate method was used for evaluation of antimicrobial properties of coatings. The effectiveness of coatings was demonstrated using bacteria relevant to hygiene such as Pseud. aeruginosa, Esch. coli, Staph. aureus and fungi Asp. niger and Pen. chrysogenum. The silicate facade coatings containing nano ZnO showed excellent antimicrobial activity against bacteria. The coatings with nano ZnO only partially inhibited growth of fungi."@en .
