The author shows how to comprehend Jan Pato\u010Dka's thoughts on education and art. She suggests that Pato\u010Dka considers the freedom to be the %22telos%22 of both. In the first part \u0160\u00E1rka Slaninov\u00E1 deals with the issue of education. The author elaborates Pato\u010Dka's conceptions of the so called %22open soul%22 and %22close soul%22 which allows to analyze the problems of education through two different significances of the word %22formation%22. Jan Pato\u010Dka's philosophy of education represents an effort to interpret this field of man's activity in ontological context. Inspired by Comenius, Pato\u010Dka proposes the concept of so called :open %22soul%22 and explains its importance for Pato\u010Dka's contemporaries. In this context, he talks about the so-called %22turn-around pedagogy%22. This pedagogy, based on the theory of %22open soul%22, assumes the fundamental openness of man toward the world and toward the being. This openness manifests as freedom.
