The optical cables BOTDA was instrumented in order to detect deformations of the primary lining of the Middle Tunnel on the construction site Metro V. A in Prague. In the vicinity of the Middle Tunnel bench took place the excavation of adjacent railway tunnels leading to the Pet\u0159iny Station. They have been excavated one after another by two earth shields EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) - the left railway tunnel has been excavated first (by the shield S609 “Tonda”); the right railway tunnel has been excavated afterwards (by the shield S610 “Ad\u00E9la”). The instrumentation of two longitudinal measuring lines and one cross measuring profile was done; the longitudinal line consisted of two parts installed closely one above the other in a left bench in order to have the possibility of the comparison of two different forms of the installation, including particular influences of the environment. The first part of the cable was fixed to the lining in points, the other part was continuously connected with the lining (it was put into the groove which had been made in the lining and afterwards cemented). The total length of measuring lines was approximately 80m, the length of the passive cable was 680m. Verification measurements were provided by convergence belt and by means of geodetic methods. By the comparison of BOTDA to verification measurements it has been proven that the installation has been a functional measuring system able to detect deformations of the primary lining of a tunnel by distributed measurement method BOTDA."@en . .
