On the particular slope of the surface mine of Palivov\u00FD kombin\u00E1t \u00DAst\u00ED, s.p. in \u00DAst\u00ED nad Labem two different installations of optical measuring cables BOTDA (Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry / Analysis) for determination of deformations of a potentially unstable slope took place: 1. a linear installation in a slope direction above a local landslide which should monitor the surface deformations and, in sensitive cases, could be also continuous with the possibility of warning; 2. installation in a borehole for monitoring of deformations in dependence on a depth and time. Both instrumentations proved that the installation procedures were well designed and allow the successful implementation even in case of unfavourable boundary conditions. Independent verification measurements used because of the research were sensitive enough and appropriate for the purpose. They are required for several applications as the possibility of parallel measurement during some difficult tasks of the geotechnical monitoring (convergence tape, laser distance meter, sliding deformeter, modified inclinometer). The pilot operation no.1 verified the possibilities of BOTDA/BOTDR use under real conditions of optical measuring cables operation in geotechnical applications in soil/rock environment.
