"Slope movement activity can be monitored through above ground deformation development with the use of distributed strain sensing by BOTDA. The area of interest is deployed with optic measuring line or lines. One of possible alternatives of transfer of above ground deformation towards the optic measuring line is the application of aerial anchor elements. Optic measuring cable is pre-stressed within couples of aerial anchor elements in series with the use of small cable fixing anchor plates. If the measuring lines are intersecting, their mechanical connection is preferred. Alternative of aerial anchor element for connection and crossing with grade-separation is used. Two coupling nuts and four tie screws with washers are used for fixing a couple of modified anchor elements. Aerial anchor elements are deployed in a shallow trench or trenches using four nails down per anchor element. Measuring control of installed optic cables is followed by a suitable soil backfilling the trench and its careful compaction. Other pieces of equipment are extensions for determination of anchor element location using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and next control elements developed and tested in the frame of referred research and development project.
