"The paper presents findings from area of billet continuous casting primarily with utilization of active and inactive tracing methods. In area of Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) No.1 tundish were utilized active methods for steel retention times in tundish determination for two different tundish lay-out resp.(ordinary point of impact and turbostop). The results were completed and confronted with numeric and physical simulation. The physical simulation was accomplished in ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s. as well. In area of cooling (from primary to tertiary stage) were detected (by active and inactive methods) liquid core dimensions in continuous cast strand. It was carried out a range of experiments on CCM No.1 at individual cast shapes respectively (round billets 160 mm and 210 mm, square 180 mm). The results were completed with numeric simulations.
