"The aim of our study was to evaluate maternal behaviour in ewes and viability of newborn lambs in Suffolk (SF), Texel (TX) a Merinolandschaf (ML). The number of 137 lambing and 157 lambs was evaluated. The easiest delivering - the lowest rate for postpartum behaviour was for SF 1,15. For TX 1,45 and for ML 1,53. The most viable lambs - the lowest rate was for TX 1,43, then for SF 1,5 and ML 1,56. According to litter size - 1, 2, 3 lambs was the rate for postpartum behavior 1,3 1,41 and 1,53 and for viability of lambs 1,48 1,44 a 1,67. According to sex of lambs the rate for postpartum behavior was 1,33 (females) a 1,46 (males) and for viability of lambs 1,46 (F) a 1,49 (M). As for being to the birth weight of lambs, we found significant effects of litter size (from 3,19 kg in only lambs to 1,78 kg in quadruplets), age of ewe (2,22 kg in one-year old to 2,89 kg in three-year old ewes) and sex of lamb (2,88 kg M, 2,58 kg F).
