"Legumes, (Fabaceae) is the third largest family, second after grasses in term of economical use, and likely the most important family concerning of number of domesticated species. Although principles of genetics were discovered on pea, legumes were aside of current molecular biology trends, such as genome sequencing. At present we do have nearly complete genome data for three legumes, model species Medicago truncatula and Lotus japonicus and economicaly successfull soybean. On selected cases the current status of molecular biology in relation to legumes of temperate region such as pea, faba bean, lentil etc. is presented."@en .
