"Advanced high-temperature nuclear reactors (HTR, VHTR) create a number of new opportunities for nuclear process heat applications. These opportunities are based on the high-temperature heat available, smaller reactor sizes, and enhanced safety features that allow sitting close to process plants. Major sources of value include the displacement of premium fuels and the elimination of CO2 emissions from combustion of conventional fuels and their use to produce hydrogen. VHTR can be also used for electricity production, steam production and co-generation, steam methane reforming, sea water desalination, etc. But due to high temperature of gas coolant (up to 1000\u00B0C) special structural materials and component design have to be used for VHTR and purity of coolant have to be maintained.
