"This article describes the design of a non-traditional building material made from coal combustion products and its use as artificial aggregate in light-weight concrete. Some basic mechanical and technological properties of the artificial aggregate were defined. Subsequently, several variations in the grain size composition for individual types of artificial aggregates for lightweight concrete (artificial aggregate LIAPOR, artificial aggregates based on fly ash and artificial aggregates made by accelerated curing technology) were proposed in such a way that the grain-size distribution curves were laid in the acceptable range. The properties of individual types of lightweight concrete were determined e.g. the strength properties in order to assess the suitability of artificial aggregate based on fly ash produced by cold-way and to compare with the current materials containing artificial aggregates.
