"The paper devotes a verification of setting of calculation parameters of numerical simulation of filling and solidification of a 90-ton steel ingot in the ProCAST simulation programme. The aim of the numerical modelling realized under the conditions of the Department of Metallurgy and Foundry in the Laboratory of Modelling of Processes in the Liquid and Solid Phases (which is a part of Regional Materials Science and Technology Centre at Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at VSB-TU Ostrava) is the optimization of the production technology of heavy steel ingots produced in V\u00CDTKOVICE HEAVY MACHINERY a.s. The calculation conditions were defined based on the real conditions of parallel experimentally casting of a 90-ton steel ingot and based on the technological instruction. Heat transfer coefficients were adjusted according to the results of thermography measurements. The thermodynamic properties of refractory materials were determined using datasheets of the manufacturer. The thermodynamic properties of mould material and steel were primarily defined by the calculation using the thermodynamic database Computherm. Because the basic tuned version of numerical model of filling and solidification of steel ingot will be used for the next simulation of macrosegregation, it was necessary to verify the width of two-phase zone of the steel which specifies the predisposition to the origination of segregations and influences the homogeneity of ingot. Therefore, the calculated results of temperature of liquidus and solidus from the Computherm database were compared with the results of thermal analyses of two samples of steel taken from the solid experimental ingot and also finally checked by calculation of the equations generally used to determine liquids and solidus temperatures."@en . .
