"The greatest part of experimental work on the host-pathogen interaction in barley - powdery mildew pathogen is aimed at identifying resistance genes in barley to the pathogen. For this, about 8 seeds of tested varieties are sown into pots with 60-mm upper diameter. However, a large number of varieties with heterogeneous resistance (they are composed of two or more lines with different resistance) are regularly found. In such varieties, individual seeds must be sown, plants must be harvested separately and individual progenies must be tested again. As usual, 6 plant progenies per variety are tested. However, it greatly decreases a capacity of tests because instead of 30 varieties, which can be placed in the space of one experimental series, only 5 varieties can be tested, each of which is represented by 6 progenies.
