The isolates that are stored come from collections across the entire planet and thus they are highly valuable. Blumeria is a biotrophic organism and its reproduction cycle takes 14 days at a room temperature. After this time, at latest, isolates would have to be inoculated on fresh tissue of young plants. However, the isolates are kept in refrigerators at 5-7\u00B0C. Thus, the interval between inoculations required is extended from 2 to 8 weeks. Two refrigerators with a movable glass top cover are used. They are placed under laboratory conditions without natural light, therefore, both plants and leaf segments on which the isolates are reproduced, must be illuminated with an artificial source.
