The disease severity depends, to a great extent, on local conditions, preceding crop, soil tillage practice and other factors, such as sowing time or nitrogen fertilization. The objective of this study was to observe dynamics of colonizing wheat stem bases by individual pathogens through the growing season. Molecular methods were used to determine fungal species. The most frequent species on stem bases was Microdochium nivale, nevertheless, its harmfulness considering external symptoms was low. In contrast, eyespot pathogens, the fungi of the genus Oculimacula, began to occur in 2007 at later growth stages of the host when the correlation between their occurrence frequency and external disease symptoms expressed by infection index was significant."@en .
