"In the seedling orchard of the sweet cherry altogether 117 genotypes and 14 control cultivars ripening from the 1st to the 7th cherry week were evaluated in 2003-2007. The choice of genotypes was focussed on the size of fruits and their resistance to cracking, with the aim to select large fruited sweet cherries with advanced fruit quality and suitability for hand picking. Phonological observations were done and with fruits their size, susceptibility to cracking and sensoric evaluation were performed. In the first sweet cherry week the genotype HL 15779 (Adelka) had larger fruits and higher resistance to cracking than the control cultivar Rivan. In the second sweet cherry week the most interesting was selection HL 16166 with mean fruit weight 9.37 g and then HL 10552 (Helga) with the mean weight 7.9 g and with the mean share equal to 9.4 % of cracked fruits.
