"Apple cultivars (\u00B4Golden Delicious\u00B4, \u00B4Rub\u00EDn\u00B4, \u00B4Greensleeves\u00B4, \u00B4Prima\u00B4) and pear cultivars (\u00B4Clapp's Favourite\u00B4, \u00B4Williams Pear\u00B4, \u00B4Kopore\u010Dka\u00B4, \u00B4Charneu\u00B4) were chosen according to their cold hardiness and their origin (including original Czech cultivars). Selected cultivars of pear and apple were introduced in in vitro cultures. Less than 5% of initial explants became visibly contaminated with microorganism. Different cultivars did not respond in the same way during in vitro proliferation. Multiplication rate after one month on MS medium with 1 mg/l BAP (6- benzylaminopurine) varied from 1.2 to 4.2 depending on the cultivars. Genotypes differed in shoot morphology (callus formation, narrow and not expanded leaves). Cold hardening at + 4\u00B0C enhanced their tolerance to low temperature.
