"The aim of this study was to analyze the set of 43 Clostridium strains for volatile carboxylic acids production. Species-specific PCRs for Clostridium butyricum (Nakanishi et al., 2005) and Clostridium tyrobutyricum (Herman et al., 1995) were used for species identification. Formation of short-chain carboxylic acids (acetic, propionic, 2-methylpropanoic, butyric and valeric) was studied by gas chromatography in culture supernatants. For each of them, Kovats index was estimated. Most of the strains had produced acetic acid (40 strains) and butyric acid (33 strains), while 2-methylpropanoic acid was determined in 14 samples, propionic acid in 11 samples and valeric acid had been produced only by 7 strains. The highest concentrations were measured for acetic acid and butyric acid. Total concentration of analyzed acids was in the range from 0.4 to 6 mg/ml. The chromatographic profiles of produced carboxylic acids were in no correlation with the species identification (Clostridium butyricum and Clostridium"@en . "\u0160panov\u00E1, Alena" . . .
