"Currently, almost all IR 850 nm VCSEL laser drivers allows only OOK (on-off keying digital modulation). These drivers are predominantly used for 1/10 Gbit Ethernet infrastructure applications. Other principle based on electro-optical Mach-Zehnder modulators is possible only for 1550 nm band. For these reasons, own solution was performed during solving the project. The driver with the analog bandwidth from 10 MHz to 1 GHz was completely realized. The driver can be used in CW, RF modulation or pulse modes. The mean optical power is stabilized using the feedback monitoring photodiode. The laser current is monitored and can be set up to 250 mA. The driver consists of two blocks. The first one stabilizes the mean optical power and the second produces RF modulation current. To achieve high bandwidth, linearity and efficiency the driver contains two RF gain blocks working on push-pull configuration. The RF modulation current is injected into the laser current path using AC coupling capacitors. The RF amplifiers must operate in antiphase. The exciting signals are obtained using broad-band balun transformer with the phase shift of 180 degrees. The driver is strictly designed to the impedance matching of 50 Ohm. The laser driver was developed within the project GA18303001 and will be used for measuring parameters of optical channels in the frequency and time domains.
