"SimPP is a network simulator, which was developed with the purpose of teaching and research on a system which can emulate a transport network with a precisely defined loss, jitter and other parameters. A standard local area network is not convinient for teaching and research, ironically thanks to their high quality. In teaching and research it is often necessary to work with a network, which is burdened with a certain, precisely defined degree of imperfection. Our system is based on PC platform and Linux operating system, including iproute2, tcpdump, python, and other packages. The simulator can easily bring a delay of about 1 ms to 10 sec to the network and regulate the bandwidth ranging from 9600 kbps to 100 Mbps, which is fully adequate for education and research purposes. Other controllable parameters including jitter, loss, duplication and packet reordering are also available. The system is used to teach topics dealing with IP telephony backbone networks and for research of active network element"@en . . . "SimPP - Wide Area Network Simulator"@en . "26220" . .
