Unfortunately, for signals developed in time is the frequency description influenced by the whole signal length and there is not possible to locate the description in time. For that reason were other transformations created. The paper begins with short time Fourier transformation, then it goes through wavelet transformation used in modern compression systems (JPEG2000, MPEG4, ...) and it brings basic Gabor transformation thoughts closer.
