Welding of ferritic-austenitic (duplex) steel by laser is accompanying creating of rough ferrite grain structure in the seam with wrong mechanical properties. In the second part is studied influence of the welding microstructure by using appropriate shielding gases. When was used the nitrogen or helium then proved apparent diffusion into the depth of the weld with consequent effect on the weld microstructure. Discussed two different mechanisms of influence.
