"According to statistics, Czech Republic produced approximately 5.5 million tons of further non-recycled waste in 2007; municipal waste makes up roughly 96.6 % and hazardous waste makes up 3.4 % of this amount. Only 708 thousand tons were incinerated, which is 12.8 % and this share is significantly lower than a total average for the whole EU (18 to 20 %). We may assume that development of new capacities for thermal processing of waste in the Czech Republic will follow. If we consider average lower heating value (LHV) of municipal waste to range from 10 to 11 Gj/t, 1 ton of this waste represents roughly 0.25 ton of its oil equivalent and 0.7 ton of soft coal. Effective energy utilization of waste may contribute to slight decrease in ever-growing consumption of primary energy sources.
