"Waste-to-Energy can be considered as one of renewable sources of energy. In this case waste stops to be problem and becomes a valuable fuel. This approach has the following benefit - waste is treated and at the same time energy is produced. Due to more and more sweeping emission limits WTE systems provide us with clean and reliable energy and thus corresponding to primary energy savings. In a number of European countries energy from WTE systems is considered to be renewable energy and is evaluated in the same way as for example biomass energy. An overview of criteria applicable for evaluation of energy efficiency within WTE plants is presented in the paper. Their characteristic features are explained and further analyzed. These criteria can't compare benefits of WTE against other up-to-date technologies (natural gas based cogeneration, biomass fired heating plants and power stations etc.).
