"Finite element (FE) models of the acoustic spaces corresponding to the human vocal tract and acoustic space around human head for the Czech vowels /a/ and /i/ was modified by adding acoustic spaces that occurs after tonsilectomy. Firstly the resonant characteristics of this FE models was studied and then the pronunciation of vowels was simulated using transient analysis with Liljencrants-Fants (LF) glottal signal model. Calculated results show that tonsilectomy causes frequency shift of 3rd (~180 Hz) and 4th (~120 Hz) formants to lower frequencies for vowel /a/ and frequency shift down of 2nd, 4th and 5th formant for vowel /i/ (all ~100 Hz). The magnitude of the frequency shift depends on the volume of the acoustic spaces that occurs after tonsilectomy."@en . .
