"The contribution links up to our previous work regarding the FEM of the global response of brittle matrix composites toughened by ductile particles under compression-compression loading. The aim was to verify predictions of the micromechanical model based on the eigenstrain concept and classical averaging techniques. In brittle materials loaded in compression tensile microcracks can initiate due to tensile stress concentration around various inhomogeneities. Under cyclic compression-compression loading an accumulation of inelastic strain can be observed which is attributed to these microcracks.
