Then the stress strain modelling must deal with gradual (non-linear) increase of deformation during construction. The uppermost layer influence strain of all previously filled layers by additional load and also deforms itself by its weight. During the construction the total displacements of the fill are compensated by increasing the thickness of new uppermost layers. This method of construction leads to specific distribution of displacements in a dam when the maximum displacement is located inside of the dam body when compared to resulting maximum displacement at the dam crest in case of hypothetical \u201Csudden filling\u201D. The model taking into account gradual dam filling is a base for the calculation of dam stability and further modelling of the elasto-plastic dam behaviour during its operation.
