"Soil moisture retention curve and hydraulic conductivity belong to basic characteristics describing hydraulic properties of soil. Measurement of hydraulic characteristics of soil, especially retention curve, is time-consuming and expensive. As an alternative solution, which may be accurate enough, seems to use pedotransfer functions (PTFs) to estimate these properties instead of direct measurements. This is an indirect method, using analytical expression of retention curve. Parameters acting in this expression are obtained by regression based on easily available soil characteristics such as particle size distribution, soil bulk density, organic matter content and more.
