"The paper deals with the problems of the theoretical and experimental investigation of the buckling resistance of steel and steel-concrete columns composed of high-strength materials. The paper presents selected results of the more extensive research realized on the authors workplace and oriented to the utilization of high-strength steels and high-performance concretes in steel structural members and composite structural members composed of steel and concrete. This paper is directed towards one part of this research only that means theoretical analysis of the buckling resistance and experimental verification of the objective buckling resistance of compression members in connection with the actual behaviour of the structural member and corresponding relevant failure mechanism. Within the framework of the buckling resistance analysis two basic cross-section types of columns have been investigated: (i) open IPE cross-sections and (ii) circular tubes, both steel members and steel-concrete members.
