"Fly ash can be transformed into very well compact cemented material by the process called alkali activation. It is a process by which the glassy components of fly ash are dissolved at a very high pH in the presence of soluble alkali metal silicates. In this work the influence of the ratio of alkali activator/fly ash on the synthesis of fly ash-based materials and their mechanical properties was investigated. Three types of ash were used for preparing specimens. Two of them were coal-fly ashes. One of them was from combustion of biomass. All fly ashes have been activated by the sodium water glass with ratio of SiO2/Na2O=1,51. The results of the investigation show in all cases that the mechanical properties of specimens were increasing with increasing ratio of activator/fly ash."@en . . . .
