"This report introduces results of a 3D numerical study of the standardized control bending test of pre-tensioned railway sleeper performed in ATENA software. Results of this simulation are compared to selected results of extensive parametrical studies carried out as 2D problem and experimental data as well. Main attention is paid to the prediction of distribution and widths of cracks evolving at the sleeper's surface in dependence on the applied load. A good agreement has been achieved in structural behaviour of the elaborated 3D model and the response of real sleepers. It has been found out that the crack distribution can be predicted by the 3D model as the field of inelastic tensile strains interpreted as the field of crack widths in the used software. An estimation of the dependence of the load on the sum of widths of the evolved cracks is comparable to the experimental data."@en . .
