"With increasingly stringent water quality standards for discharge and reuse there is a need for wastewater treatment plants to provide effluent of a reliable and excellent standard. In recent years, a Membrane Biological Reactors (MBRs) become a promising alternative to the well-known conventional activated sludge systems. The aim of this research is to get a practical experience with operation of a household MBR plant under the real conditions with real domestic wastewater that differs from the municipal wastewater. Additionally, the main target is to optimize the operation of MBR plant for a further full-scale application. For household MBR plant is typical that the system must cope with a long-time zero load or vice-versa with more concentrated wastewater in big amounts (i.e. on weekends). The tested household MBR plant is installed in the garden of a four-person house. This pilot- scale consists of three chambers in series.
