One of dams which had been built during this time is the Znojmo dam. It is an earth dam with combined spillway block. Nominal discharge of the dam safety spillway was Q = 355 m3.s-1. However, the new requirements represented by standard TNV 75 2935 count with safety management of flow rate of Q = 610 m3.s-1. Therefore, the decision of whole reconstruction of the Znojmo Dam safety spillway was made. These modifications were proposed: sinking of the existing spillway crest combined with exchange of the existing flap gates with tainter gates, construction of breakwater on the dam crest, and stilling basin modification. Considering the volume of proposed modifications and complex flow on similar structures it was necessary to assess all modifications using hydraulic research.
