"The device is a patch antenna array used for the 9.5 GHz FMCW sensor SDH1 which is used for detection of a obstacle in near vicinity of a helicopter. The main requirements are small size and low weight and achieving the desired 3dB radiation beams in a horizontal and vertical plane and good impedance matching in full frequency band (9.25 - 9.7 GHz). From this reasons the antenna is designed on multilayer microstrip technology. The radiating antenna elements (patches) are situated on the top of the substrate. The patches are grouped into four antenna lines with serial feeding. Each of this lines create desired 24\u00B0 vertical beam. By a suitable interconnection of these four antenna lines the desired 30 \u00B0 radiation pattern in the horizontal plane is reached. The patches are situated on a microwave substrate Rogers RO4350 with relative permittivity epsilonr = 3.66 and thickness 1.524 mm. The usage of this quality substrate provides good reproducibility of the proposal. The bottom side of the substrate does not have a copper. The next is an air gap, which allows to achieve the desired bandwidth of the whole antenna system. This air gap is followed by a next printed circuit board with substrate Rogers RO4350. On the side adjacent to the air gap is left a copper which forms the ground plane for the patch antenna array and for the microstrip distribution network on the bottom side of the PCB. Feeding network consists of microstrip lines and of a Wilkinson's power dividers. The task of this distribution network is to achieve the desired amplitude and phase of signal at each antenna lines.
