Each of the two halves consists of three dielectric layers, where the inner one is made of a low permittivity material like polystyrene or PUR foam to achieve a broadband antenna operation. On the outer surface of the utmost layer radiating patches are situated and fed by perpendicular wires from the microstrip feeder, situated on the opposite side of the three layer dielectric substrate. The two halves of the antenna radiate electromagnetic waves to the opposite space semispheres . The antenna forms a specific dual cosecance-squared horizontal antenna diagram with two maxima in the lateral directions and with a minimum in the front direction. The vertical antenna diagram is of a standard form. The described horizontal diagram could be advantageously used for instance in communication between base station and cars or railway couches passing along a straight line (like road or railroad track).
