Nowadays, chromatographic methods are used for these analyses, for example high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC/UV). Modern methods and classical methods of propellant analysis (titration, gravimetry) require sample preparation before analysis. It means that target analytes have to be isolated from sample for their analysis. Isolation step of propellant analysis includes extraction methods usually. The extractio method is allways selected according to the matrix of sample and kind of sample. Conventional method for preparation of propellant samples and explosives samples is Soxhlet extraction with dochloromethane or diethyl ether as extraction agent.
