"The article deals with the evaluation of initiation strength (IS) of detonators and the factors that influence the IS. The experimental method of detonator impulse measurement in an impulse chamber (IC), which was developed at the Institute of Energetic Materials (IEM), was used. For the purpose of verification of theoretical assumptions about processes taking place in the impulse chamber and of experimental results, a numerical simulation of detonators detonation has been carried out by means of the code LS-DYNA. The experimental results were used to evaluate possibilities of the test method for assessment of the IS taking into account individual factors that could influence it. The experimental data obtained from measurements in the impulse chamber corresponded quite well with those obtained from the numerical simulation.
