"Background: Intrauterine infection is a major cause of preterm delivery, perinatal morbidity and mortality of fetus. Intrauterine infection is present in approximately 25 % of all preterm births. The most common microorganisms involved in intrauterine infections are Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis. M. hominis is commonly isolated microorganism from the female genital tract. This microorganism can be found in 21 % to 53 % of sexually active women. The transmition from the mother to the developing fetus can happen in uterus during the pregnancy or during the delivery. The relationship between detection of Mycoplasma hominis in mid-trimester amniotic fluid and subsequent pregnancy outcome was investigated. Data collected included indication for amniocentesis, gestational age at amniocentesis, gestational age at delivery, pregnancy outcome and low birth weight of infants. Method: The amniotic fluids of 184 women who underwent a transabdominal amniocentesis at weeks 15 - 22 of pregnancy we"@en . "Mazurov\u00E1, Jaroslava" . "S649" . .
