"1"^^ . . . . "The basic raw material for the production of foundry molds and cores is sand. Pouring molten metal into the mold cavity creates a solid casting. Cast iron and steel are alloys of iron, carbon and other elements. The temperatures necessary to pour alloys ranges from 1300 \u2013 1450 dgr. C, for steel from 1500 \u2013 1700 dgr. C. Based upon these criteria, foundry sand is classified into molds for castings made of cast iron, steel and other metals. To manufacture molds for difficult castings, the most refractory sands must be chosen. An analysis of technological factors impacting on the quality of casting molds was carried out using samples of quartz sand from the Provod\u00EDn (CZE), \u0160ajd\u00EDkove Humence (SVK) and Grudze\u0144-Las (POL) deposits. The methodological section was done using particle size, chemical and structural analyses. The particle size classification was determined using the Wentworth scale, cumulative distribution curves and histograms."@en .
