Metabolic activity of bacteria was related only to the oxidation of Fe(II) to Fe(III). The pure indirect mechanism of pyrite biooxidation was observed. Inhibition of iron-oxidizing activity leads to sulfur formation. To study conditions for elemental sulfur biooxidation, different sulfur substrates were tested.
