"In this talk, we propose use of parallel texts of Chinese and (at least) another language for the purpose of contrastive study. In particular, we will demonstrate how use of translated literary texts not only allows us to compare the stylistic and the cognitive aspects of literary works in a cross-linguistically valid way, but also helps to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms relating language and thinking. We conclude that use of parallel literary texts should be incorporated as a new methodology in Chinese linguistics, and that such incorporation may create a cross-fertilization of research in literature, translation, and linguistics."@en .
