"This paper focuses on the efforts of representatives of journalists' unions from around the world to build a uniform international journalists' organisation after the end of World War II. Its primary objective should have been to promote press freedom and support for building world peace through responsible journalism. On these principles the International Organization of Journalists (IOJ) was founded in 1946, whose headquarters was from 1947 in Prague. The IOJ played a significant role in terms of development of Czech journalism, but equally Czech journalists significantly influenced IOJ directions throughout its existence. With the Iron Curtain being raised between East and West in the late 40s the conceptual contradictions within the IOJ became aroused as well, which eventually resulted in the establishment of a competitive %22western%22 International Federation of Journalists. The schism between East and West was thus definitively confirmed on the field of journalism."@en . . . "I, P(GAP410/12/2290)" .
