"We have evaluated the changes in the quantitative EEG (QEEG) in animal pharmacological models of psychosis. The registration of EEG in freely moving rats was performed from 12 subdural electrodes placed on six homologous sites of frontal, motor, parietal and temporal cortex. QEEG parameters have been analyzed after the administration of amphetamine (dopaminergic model of positive symptoms of psychosis) and ketamine (glutamatergic model of positive and negative symptoms of psychosis). We have found that both drugs significantly alter EEG spectra and EEG coherences. Ketamine induced massive excitation in all cortical areas thorough the whole frequency spectrum, whereas amphetamine induced an increase of slow (inhibitory) activity in frontal and temporal regions and a decrease of beta (excitatory) activity all over the cortex.
