"Infectious bronchopneumonia may be caused by Pasteurella multocida and usually represents the final stage of enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. However, successful antimicrobial therapy of infections is compromised by occurrence and spread of bacterial resistance. A new concept in testing of antimicrobial resistance - determination mutant prevention concentration (MPC) and mutant selection window (MSW) can significantly contribute to the prevention of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents by reducing of spread of resistant mutants in bacterial populations. We compared the value of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and MPC values of three antimicrobial agents for 80 isolates of P. multocida from bronchopneumonia in pigs. The ratio of MIC90/MPC90 which limited MSW was for tulathromycin 4/128 mg/L, for florfenicol 0.5/32 mg/L and for enrofloxacin 0.12/2 mg/L. The dosage of antimicrobial agents to achieve of serum concentration equal or higher then MPC (where possible) can allow reducing of selection in resistant bacterial subpopulation."@en . . "3" .
