Resistance to methicillin was determined by the disk diffusion method using oxacillin and cefoxitin disks, microdilution method, detection of PBP2a and the mecA gene (ref. method). 109 isolates were classified as resistant by the diffusion test with oxacillin (22 correctly, 87 falsely) and 89 as susceptible (all correctly). When using the test with cefoxitin, 32 isolates were classified as resistant (10 correctly, 22 falsely) and 166 as susceptible (154 correctly, 12 falsely). When using the microdilution method, 50 isolates were classified as resistant (15 correctly, 35 falsely) and 148 as susceptible (141 correctly, 7 falsely). The results revealed substantial variability, depending on the phenotyping method. Therefore, it is advisable to reconsider the current interpretation criteria in the case of coagulase-negative staphylococci of animal origin (with the exception of S. epidermidis)."@en . "2" .
